We think quirky is the best way to go because you get to express your personal style regardless of what is trendy, modern, and new. DIY Simple Paradise

It was all yellow -- literally. Even though we’ve ranted about the horrors of an empty dorm room and those bare white walls. There are ways to add a little bit of spice to a plain dorm room. The flower accents take away from the emptiness of the wall and even compliment their color -- now that’s something you don’t see everyday. What’s extra quirky about this room is -- you guessed it, the flower wall decorations. Rather than buying some expensive wall art, this person took a do it yourself theme and put flowers you’d find at the arts and craft store directly on the walls. That’s definitely unique. 

You can embrace the DIY flower wall theme and do this too. Simply go to your nearest arts and crafts store, pick out some of your favorite flowers and leafy accents to go with them and some adhesive so they’ll stick to the walls. You can even take this a step further by pairing your flowers with the color of your bedding -- which appears to be exactly what this creator did with their room. You’ll notice how the majority of the flowers are yellow which matches the bedding. 

So, you know the drill. If your favorite color is purple, and your bedding is purple, then pick out some beautiful lavender sprigs to match. You could even get fancy with an essential oil diffuser and make your room smell like lavender too.

Yellow is such a great color because it matches the sun and has a few more amazing qualities -- happiness, positivity, clarity, energy, freshness, and enlightenment to name a few. Where do we begin with this room? The bed makes us feel like we want to lay there and watch movies all day -- and sometimes you will. It’s important to include some YOU time in college. If you constantly try to push yourself to work and study, at some point you will reach a breaking point. 

Back to our lovely bedroom -- the other thing we are loving is the wall of dream catchers. Usually you may see one in a room, but not an entire wall full of them! This is so unique and fun, especially if you have a few pieces you can’t choose between -- hang them all!

We are also loving the inclusion of fairy lights. Dorm rooms usually come with one light source on the ceiling, which is usually brighter than the sun and painful. Fairy lights or a lamp make a great addition for when you want to lay in bed at night without a bright light shining down on you. 

You can recreate this room by working with your favorite patterns, hanging a bunch of wall decor, including lights and adding a houseplant to purify the air in your dorm room. After all, residence halls are usually stagnant and in need of some fresh air. Plus having something to take care of is entertaining and will give you a new hobby.

One thing we noticed about the inspiration above, aside from the wall of dream catchers and fairy lights, was the attention to stripe patterns. The comforter, the throw blanket, and a few of the accent pillows all stuck to one stripe theme. This might seem like a difficult look to pull off since solids are notoriously easier to work with that patterns, but the truth is, this is extremely simple. 

The comforter is white with black stripes while the throw blanket is blue with white stripes, and all of the accent pillows match the comforter. This is the key to recreating the look. Each pattern is neutral -- white and black with a pop of color in the throw blanket. You can recreate this look the same way by choosing stripe patterns that are mostly neutral then throw in a pop of your favorite color somewhere in the bedding. 

No White Walls in Sights

We’ll be the first to say it, the vibes in this room are immaculate. If we didn’t know this was a dorm room, we never would have guessed. If you haven’t yet toured a college or university and visited a staged dorm room, then you’re in luck. Most of the time, staged rooms go above and beyond what you typically find on a college campus. When in reality, the first time you walk into your new dorm room, you’ll meet a sight that matches a horror movie. Four bare walls that have been smothered with layers of mismatched white and off-white paints, an empty desk and dresser, and a bare mattress sitting atop a lackluster bed frame. Immediately, the decorating needs to commence. 

There’s something to be said about the easiness of tapestries -- they are a huge way to knock out a good chunk of wall space. But when you add tapestries side by side, the entire wall disappears and you’re left with something that doesn’t resemble a dorm room at all. 

Now onto the bedding, even though there are a lot of different patterns and blue tones here, it all works. How you may ask? We are feeling a strong sense of comfort from all of the fabrics -- the pillows, the blankets, and the tapestries. They envelop you in ease and coziness. 

Even though this room seems very personalized and difficult to recreate -- the truth is, recreating this room to match your taste is a breeze. Here’s our best tip -- if you like what you see, then you only need to do one thing. Pick your favorite color. Once you’ve decided, start buying all of your bedding in different shades of that color, then pick a few tapestries in different tones to match and you’ve got your own quirky dorm room.
